And by the way, did you know that this weekend’s tie between the two winners for Best Live-Action Short is the seventh in Oscars history? The most famous is Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand’s draw for Best Actress in 1969—but the most interesting is the first, which wasn’t really a tie at all. Early Oscars rules held that runners-up within three votes of the actual winner would be declared winners as well, and in 1932, Fredric March was only one vote ahead of Wallace Beery for Best Actor. Devastatingly, only three actors were nominated in the category, so the real distinction went to Alfred Lunt: the lone loser. See you tomorrow!
