The International Crisis Group is delighted to announce the appointment of Julius Gaudio, long-time Crisis Group supporter and leading philanthropist, as Co-Chair of Crisis Group’s Board of Directors. Mr. Gaudio will serve alongside Susana Malcorra, Co-Chair of the Board since 2021. Frank Giustra will continue as a Director and Trustee. “I’m thrilled to welcome Julius as my Co-Chair”, Susana Malcorra said. “In these tumultuous times, Crisis Group’s work to prevent and end conflict is more vital than ever. Julius has been a steadfast champion of this mission, a trusted sounding board and a driving force behind our ambition. As Crisis Group enters its fourth decade and pursues a bold new strategic direction, I can think of no better partner.” “Julius’ global outlook, decades of strategic leadership experience and sustained commitment to social impact make him an excellent choice to helm the Board. I wholeheartedly congratulate him on the appointment”, said retiring Co-Chair of the Board Frank Giustra. “I am honoured and excited to take on the role of Co-Chair of the Board”, Mr. Gaudio said. “The mission of Crisis Group is close to my heart, and it has never been more vital. At a time when conflicts seem harder to prevent or end, and more people are displaced than at any point since World War II, there is enormous appetite for Crisis Group’s deep analysis, pragmatic ideas and on-the-ground perspectives. I look forward to working closely with Susana, the Board and staff to pursue the vision of a more peaceful world.” About Julius Gaudio Julius Gaudio is a managing director of D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. He joined the D. E. Shaw group in 1993, and from 2002 to 2023 served on its Executive Committee, where he jointly supervised the firm’s worldwide business and was a member of its Risk Committee. During his tenure overseeing the D. E. Shaw group’s investment management activities, he was instrumental in the formation, trading, and management of several of the firm’s investment strategies. Julius serves as Chairman of the Board of DESRI, a developer, owner and operator of renewable energy projects across the United States. He is also on the Board of Directors of Artsy, an online marketplace for the art world, and Nyota Sports Group Ltd., an independent football agency. He is the CEO of the Gaudio Family Foundation, which provides philanthropic support to a range of charitable causes. Julius and his family have been close supporters of Crisis Group’s work for many years, with Julius joining the Board of Trustees in early 2024. About the International Crisis Group Crisis Group is the world’s premier conflict prevention organisation, with 150 staff covering 70 actual and potential conflicts around the globe.
